Robert F. Schantz, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born on January 1, 1946, in Newark, New Jersey, Bob was raised in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, where he graduated from Ridge High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life, and he was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7858 in Bernardsville, New Jersey.

Bob dedicated more than five decades of his professional life to the Steamfitters Local Union 475, where he earned the respect and friendship of countless coworkers through his strong work ethic, skill, and loyalty.

Bob had a true craftsman’s spirit. He found great joy in carpentry and cabinetmaking, creating projects that reflected both precision and pride. He also found peace and joy in gardening, spending many happy hours tending to his plants and outdoor spaces.

For the past 20 years, Bob enjoyed life at Woodlake Village in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where he became known as a kind neighbor , willing helper, and active member of the community.  He especially valued the friendships he built and the opportunity to help others whenever he could.  

Above all, Bob treasured his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sandra Schantz; his son, Robert Schantz; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Segovia; his sister, Connie Schantz; and his beloved granddaughter, Isabella Schantz, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Bob will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to family, service to his country, and the kindness he showed to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, and integrity.  Bob lived life on his own terms and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Services will be held at a later date in his hometown of Basking Ridge, NJ.
