Ruth Plekowski, 97, of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at her residence, with her family by her side.
She was born in Indiana, PA, to Clyde Donahey and Isabelle (Payton) Donahey.
She was a devout Christian, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother who cared more for others than herself.
Prior to retirement, she performed clerical work for General Electric and was a teletypist at the Ravenna Arsenal.
Having lived through the Great Depression, she learned to be one thrifty lady. As a result, one of her hobbies, out of necessity, was sewing. She made clothes for the entire family. She also enjoyed cooking and canning. Most nothing went to waste due to her thriftiness. She often would tell the family, especially the grandchildren, of her time during the Depression. She was a walking, breathing history lesson.
Ruth was one tough lady. In her final days, she told the family the pandemic of 2020 was one of the hardest things she has ever had to live through.
One of many things that most will remember Ruth by will be the saying that she left everyone with: “Angels watch over you”. Heaven has one amazing angel now, and she is watching over all of us. She will be dearly missed.
Ruth was an active member of the Newton Falls United Methodist Church for many years.
She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Stars for more than 75 years. She was also an active member of American Legion Post 236.
Ruth is survived by her two children, Bonnie Blaha of Hillsboro, Wis., and Cindy Anderson with her husband, Glenn Anderson, of Conway, SC; her sister, Mary Jane Probst of North Jackson; and brother-in-law, Richard Fruit.
Wonderful memories of Ruth will also be carried on by her grandchildren, Angela (Michael) Apicella, Melissa (Derek) Ridenour, Christopher Doughty, Greg Showers, Brandy (William) Reick and Lori (David) Voltz; her adopted daughters, Doreen (Rob) Lutz and Denice Sayers; and niece, Nina (Bill) Carlson. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her late husbands, Thomas “Pete” Douglass and Joseph Plekowski. Besides her parents, also preceding Ruth were her sisters, Isabelle Jones and Jean Fruit; and her grandson, Douglass Showers.
Memorial services celebrating Ruth’s life are pending for early November.
