Sherrie Clayton Wassamire, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away suddenly on May 20th, 2024, at the age of 63.
Sherrie was born in Washington, DC to William Austin Clayton III and Shirley Mae (Scritchfield) Clayton on September 20th, 1960. She was a graduate of Linganore High School in Frederick County Maryland. In school, she was an accomplished gymnast. After school, Sherrie worked as a very talented florist for many years. She then went on to become a geriatric nurse, starting out working in a retirement home then venturing into home health care where she loved caring for her clients. She ended her working career with a Non-Profit organization, finally retiring in 2022. Sherrie enjoyed the beach, gardening, making crafts, listening to country music and spending time with friends and family. She also loved her rescue cat, Juliet.
Sherrie is survived by her children, Ashley Wassamire and CJ Wassamire, her granddaughter, Joanna Wassamire; her parents, William A Clayton and Shirley Clayton; her sister, Lauren Halbig; her brother, William E Clayton and his wife Dannelle Clayton; her brother-in-law, Paul Fitzgerald; her nieces and nephews, Judson Dinsmore, Emily Halbig, Joseph Halbig, Kayla Clayton, Julie Clayton and Willa Clayton; her great nieces and nephews, Emma, Riley, Oliver, Nolan, Joshua, Isaac and Liam; her cousin and best friend, Bobbie Jo Williams; and many more cousins.
Sherrie was preceded in death by her sister, Lynette Fitzgerald and brother-in-law, Mike Halbig.
Sherrie was loved by family and friends. She will be greatly missed. A private ceremony will be held with immediate family, but we welcome extended family members and friends to send their love and share the celebration of her life with us.
