Thomas Edgar Wright
September 10, 1953 ~ February 2, 2024 (age 70) 70 Years Old
Thomas (Tom or Tommy) Edgar Wright, 70, of Myrtle Beach passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon; daughters Tiffany (Shawn) Dixon of Aiken, and Robin (Michael) Kelley also of Myrtle Beach; granddaughters Caitlin (Takayuki) Ishii of Japan, Haley Dixon of Aiken and Taylor Kelley, and grandson Drayton Kelley.
Tom was born in England to Joseph F, Sr and Marjorie E (Hembree) Wright on September 10, 1953. He was the second born of five children and after living in various places, due to his father being in the US Air Force, the Wrights eventually settled in Myrtle Beach in 1968. Tom was a 1972 graduate of Myrtle Beach High School where he met his future wife, Sharon, and also played baseball his senior year. His love of the game continued as he was a member of multiple softball teams within the Myrtle Beach Recreation League but his love for Sharon only grew over the years and they were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2023.
As a way to support his young, growing family, Tom began working in the construction field in the early 80s before eventually beginning a career with US Airways (formerly Piedmont) in 1985. His passion for construction, however, never dulled and Tom continued to build and work with developers over the years, including his brother with Southern Magnolia Construction. Upon his retirement from the airline, he started his own business with his wife in 2006 and appropriately named it Wright Realty and Builders, Inc. Sharon began her career in real estate in the late 70s, and now they were ready to take on their dream of working together to help build custom homes and assist people in finding or creating their dream home. Tom has helped build hundreds of homes in the Grand Strand Area and was an integral builder of homes in the Carolina Forest Area over the past 20 years with building custom homes in Covington Lake, Covington Lake East, Brighton Lakes, Plantation Lakes along with dozens of homes in Waterford Plantation.
He will be remembered on the job site as Tom, on the ball field as Tommy, Bubba to his siblings, Papa to his granddaughters, Grandpa to his grandson, Daddy to his daughters, and to his high school sweetheart he will always be remembered as Babe. A celebration of life will be held in the Summer of 2024, please look to social media for an update on date and time.
He is also survived by his mother, brother Pat Wright of Aiken, sister Kathy Schmidt of Conway, sister-in-law Linda Wright of Myrtle Beach along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and brother Joe and his wife Barbata Wright and brother David Wright (Southern Magnolia).
